Three golf carts and small electric vehicles have been stolen in the Florida Keys area since this summer, yet only one arrest has been made in connection with them. After speaking with another man in jail, police arrested Sean Richardson, who was in jail for unrelated charges. According to the man, police discovered that both the man and Richardson were in the area the day the GEM was stolen. A deputy found the electric vehicle in a wooded area near a white Ford F150, which quickly retreated. The deputy later found the F150 at a McDonald’s with Richardson and the other man, but Richardson did not give him consent to search the truck. When he was first questioned about the thefts, Richardson denied involvement, stating he was in the area doing drugs. However, when detectives spoke to him again, he admitted to stealing the GEM for drug money, but denied involvement in any other thefts.
