In July 2019, four golf carts were stolen from the Byron Hills Golf Club in Port Byron, Illinois. Just a month before, Country View Golf Club in Geneseo also lost four golf carts and in early June, Highland Springs in Milan lost four carts to the thieves. The carts were all the same Yamaha make and model, and cost Byron Hills $20,000. Although insurance will cover these costs, the owner, Bruce Sutton, says he feels “violated when things like this happen.” The thieves hotwired the carts and then drove them onto a trail, which led them to the ninth tee, where they escaped through a large hole in the fence. Sutton explains that the hole is the only way he knew about the theft.
